Morning Call - January 01, 2018
Rain far south
Showery north-west

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 1st January 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Bright central & north-eastern areas

Good morning,

Happy New Year!

Low pressure centred around Norway broadly influences north-western Europe today. A secondary area of low pressure passes east across northern France, bringing gales to Biscay, and possible gales for a time for English Channel coasts.

A period of rain for southern England. Showery toward the north-west of Britain & Ireland, locally merging to give persistent rain. Risk of frequent heavy bursts locally, with hail, and snow over the hills. Winds strengthening to gale force around Irish Sea coasts by the afternoon and evening.

Brighter for the Midlands, plus east & north-east of Britain, staying largely dry throughout the day in the east, with spells of sunshine.

Today's top temperatures will be 5 to 7C for northern areas, up to 8 or 9C in the south.

Have a great day.
Garry
